Landscape Recovery after Storm Damage

Landscape Recovery after Storm Damage

Helping Rebuild your landscape, one plan at a time! The storm has passed and now it’s time  to rebuild ( or at least clean up) the  aftermath of a storm.  This task can seem like a burden and an ordeal for any property owner or tenant, and requires  much more time and effort than picking up a few branches and broken limbs. This historical catastrophic storm in Houston has has left behind, broken homes, business and heavily damaged trees along with other large pieces of landscape that can be potentially hazardous if not taken care of as soon as possible.    It’s best to take a step back and formulate a strategic plan for the cleanup,  think landscape professionals. If you are inexperienced or elderly we would discourage you from tackling any potentially dangerous situation during cleanups, and shouldn’t “do it yourself”.  This decision will all depend on the extent of storm damage, calling the experts to remove debris like fallen trees is always a good idea.  We often hear stories of maintenance staff on client properties that have tried to cut a tree and they become severely injured and /or disabled due to lack of proper equipment and skills. You do not want to try and save money and think just anyone can cut up a tree, it is best to hire a professional.  (Utility providers, should be contacted when dealing with powerlines or “hot lines” that are tangled in trees.) Our goal here is to help you create a strategic game plan and not jump into a clean up too quickly.  Below are some helpful tips and...

Howdy! Boots & Bling at TNLA EXPO 2016

Howdy! Boots & Bling at TNLA EXPO 2016

Howdy! Welcome to Houston, Texas…..all Green Industry professionals. The streets were crowded with tourists from all over the state of Texas and surrounding states. Texas Nursery & Landscape Association set the bar high in 2016. Creating a  welcoming environment brought everyone together in one central arena, George R Brown convention center. Despite the construction, parking & entertainement was A+ rating. Many people were very excited of what was within the walls of GRB #SaddeUpTNLA 2016 Nursery/Landscape Expo. …so much that I hope you will enjoy a behind the scenes round-up of the many events we participated in this year!   For the first time this year, a small group of our team members were able to attend the Newcomer’s Shindig, this experience allowed them to connect with TNLA Chairman, Billy Long , who has a charming personality and offers everyone an opportunity to connect and really maximize our investment!   I personally enjoyed the 2nd Annual Women’s Wine & Tapas Get Together…since this event is the largest, greatest education & networking event in the state, having these small groups really makes a difference in face-to-face interactions & connecting with other industry professionals. Our Keynote presenter for the ladies was Dan’l Mackey Almy with DMA Solutions, she talked about “securing a lasting legacy” and one key take away was for each of us to really find our “why?” know it and own it. Many tips on how to lead a successful career /life….Woman empowering leadership roles within the industry …I enjoyed ever second of it! Later in the evening we all geared up with our boots & bling to go Wild,...

More than just Networking!

More than just Networking!

Every Customer loves to feel appreciated…even us! We are thankful to be a part of ITVIBES client appreciation day! As a business we also focus on our customers and truly understand the value of a simple “Thank you”. Since the launching of our website, ITvibes has been more than just our web design team they have been a great networking source as well!   Business Networking is essential. One popular question within our industry  is “why are my flowers (Trees, shrubs etc.) dying?” After asking a few questions and at times even visitng the site, we discover the main reason is due to lack of water. Just as water is an essential need for our plants and trees to grow….so is networking for our business. Yes there are times it feels like a love-hate relationship with Networking. The planning, prioritizing and defining it’s overall effectiveness can be at times exhausting. Even with that it is essential in our fast-pace world to market ourselves to our professional community. This allows for conenctions to form, ideas to flow and in this case, some delicious Asian Cuisine to be served!  Face-to-face. Meeting other business professionals not necessarily within our  industry can also be effective networking!  We tend to connect via our social networks and consider these conenctions effective. We have found that meeting professionals face -to -face allows for a connection that online facebook likes and linkedIn invitations can not replace. It is a personal relationship. On that note it is wise to integrate online and offline networking to build stronger relationships with a select group of professionals. Invest & Nurture. Time...

Houston: “if you build it , they will come !”

Houston: “if you build it , they will come !”

Exciting news is happening around town. While searching online for recent news articles,  I came across a big project here in our beloved city of Houston. I am sure if you commute past downtown or watch the news you have heard about the construction site near George R. Brown Convention Center.  The article below highlights a great background of the project and pictures credited to Houston Chronicle, staff Gary Coronado. Project is to be completed by next Labor Day!   Real Estate Convention center upgrades designed to improve the experience Improvements on east side of downtown to add appeal for residents, workers and visitors By Nancy Sarnoff September 21, 2015 Updated: September 21, 2015 11:13pm From a balcony off the George R. Brown Convention Center on Monday, downtown officials gestured toward the 1,000-room Marriott Marquis under development next door and at the street below them, soon to become a much more inviting space, they said, with new restaurants, seating and oversized umbrellas providing shade. These improvements are part of the $1.5 billion worth of public and private development work underway on the east side of downtown, which is being revamped to make it more appealing to residents, workers and visitors. Officials from Houston First, a quasi-public agency that manages Houston’s convention facilities, toured with a small group through the area Monday, showing off some of the changes specific to the Brown center at a cost of $175 million: A plaza and at least four restaurants at the front of the building, with a raised outdoor seating area called “the wharf,” a nod to the building’s nautical theme. The street...

Welcome to EXPO New “bee”

Welcome to EXPO New “bee”

Dallas, Texas It all started with an exclusive invitation to a “hookah -like” lounge event….how could I say no! From the moment I received my invitation to the TNLA Expo in Dallas, TX  I knew our team had to experience this event!  As members of the Texas Nursery and Landscape Association ( TNLA), we had the opportunity to meet other landscape professionals in Texas and Out of State. One of the biggest reasons why I decided to travel to Dallas early on was to take part in the TNLA Naturally Inspired Womens’ Wine and Tapas Get together, I wanted the opportunity to be around other woman in the industry and learn from their experiences and hear their success stories.  A few highlights from my arrival to Dallas to the day the rest of the team arrived are described in this blog post…I hope you will enjoy reading and feel free to share my experience with others! When I arrived at Kay Bailey-Hutchison Convention Center  I was blown away by the set up on the show floor, and a little overwhelmed at the same time, as to where I should begin. I was a “Newbee” in the game, and yet was welcomed with Texas size hospitality! This year all newcomers who attended the expo for the first time received a purple colored badge. (My favorite color by the way!) I did not mind to stand out, but it sure did make me feel comfortable knowing others had purple badges as well! While networking with industry professionals and business owners like myself in a very relaxed setting, the newcomers Shindig experience was a...

Website Launch

Importance of Launching A Website By: Joe Trevino Welcome and thank you for taking the time to visit our website! For the past two years my wife Vanessa and I have have been operating Home Turf Texas Landscape & Design without a website.  At first this wasn’t such an issue, we were considered a small family business the first year with only a handful of commercial and residential properties under our belt. We thought in this day in age with more consumers moving toward social media to find what they need and want, we wouldn’t have a problem growing our landscaping company by solely using social media as promotional outlet. We were wrong! Social media is a great way to keep your customers informed much more quickly and let our clients know of any great deals we may have for the month. We currently use Twitter to get instant landscape industry news and share our campanies most recent projects and local events. Our Facebook business page is a great way for us  to connect with  Business Partners, Friends, Family and the Houston Community. Our Instagram and Google+ Business Page have also been very active over the past couple years, and is a great tool for before and after shots of projects. The reality check came when our company began to grow rapidly. Not a bad thing to grow in just 2 short years, but we needed a website to accommodate industry high demand for service and at the same time show our consumers our landscaping work in beautiful pictures. We also needed a website to let people know we are here, we...
